Well, we had the first sonogram this week and found out that she isn't as far along as we had first supposed. They are placing her due about August 7th, which means Emily is going to be very pregnant for three of the four hottest months in the year. This does not bode well for my health, but we'll see. We still don't have a gender, but Emily and I have been tossing around names. As of right now, we have Lillian Marie for a girl and Simon Nicholas for a boy.

In other news, I've started classes again. So far it is going pretty well. I'm taking only two classes, Calculus and Chinese Civilization. The reason for the light workload is that I am going to be continuing to work almost full-time through-out the semester and I am trying to break myself back into the school mentality. It has been too long since I've taken an intensive educational mind-set and it is hard to get back into.

Emily is still doing well with her classes and still gets annoyed with her job from time to time. We need her to stick with the work portion so that we can afford to live, so she does. Anyway, she is super excited about the baby and the sonogram. She was giddy for hours afterward.

We also went up Mt. Lemmon with the dogs to play in the snow, but only stayed for a few minutes. Izzie is in heat and it has made Dodger almost impossible to control, so it didn't take to long for Emily to tire of trying to keep them apart.

Well, that is all for now. Until the next time.

Halloween weekend

So, not much has been happening in mine and Emily's lives. Emily started taking classes online for a two-year marketing program back at the beginning of October and is doing very well. I have been working as close to full-time as my job will allow. The highlight of this past weekend was taking Chelsea and her friend up to Saboten-con, an anime convention that was held in Mesa, on Halloween. For the couple of hours I was up there with them I got to wander around and gawk at all the other nerds in their geek-gear(believe it or not, I was not wearing a costume). They were unfortunately sold out of Saturday-only and Full-event passes when we got there, so I was only able to wander around out in the main plaza area and didn't get to meet the couple of voice-actors that were at the con, but Chelsea and her friend manged to volunteer and get themselves passes for the rest of Saturday evening.

Yesterday, Emily and I both had the day off(work has been slow, and Emily usually has monday night off) so we had a movie marathon day. We went and watched Whip It and 500 Days of Summer at her theatre. Both were good movies. Whip It was a fun and funny film about a high school girl who secretly joins a roller-derby league as a form of rebellion against her beauty-pageant obsessed mother. It was directed by Drew Barrymore, who also plays a minor role in the film. It was really fun. 500 Days of Summer was a little more dramatic and more of a heart-wrencher than I thought it would be. It starred Joseph Gordon-Levitt(10 Things I Hate About You) and Zooey Deschanel(Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, Elf, and more recently Yes Man). Though full of hilarious moments, which were expected of those two performers, there is a deeply emotional undertone to it and the ending is not exactly what you expect. Anyway, that's it from my neck of the woods for now.

Happy Birthday to me!

So yesterday was my birthday. Spent most of the day over at my in-laws place where we had a combined birthday for my niece Sarah, my sister-in-law Crystal, and myself. There was a lot of food, fun, and even a few presents. It was a good day. Also, recently we discovered that the portraits that Emily and I had had taken through a deal with our apartment complex may very well have been a scam. Between that and the fact that Emily and I have been having camera issues recently, we have no recent photos of us or the dogs. I promise we will get some pictures up as soon as we can manage. Until then, I suppose you can manage with a photo of a very young Izzie, and one of Dodger if I can find it.

Primary, Scorcher and Work. Oh my!

Well, time to update.

Emily celebrated her 21st birthday on the 23rd of September. It was a fairly low-key production since she and I both had work and we had made arrangements for other things to celebrate her birthday. We did go out to Applebees and I made her try a dessert, even though she didn't like it.

Mostly, Emily and I had a fun this past weekend. Friday night after she got off work, we went and saw up at her theatre. Stinking Pixar made me almost cry twice during the movie. Great movie. On Saturday we had a rehearsal for our ward's primary program. This was followed by a small pizza party for the primary, which was immediately followed by three of the children being baptized. After the baptisms, Emily and I rushed home and got changed so that we could go to a rock concert up in Phoenix, called "The End of Summer Scorcher". It was kind of a mutual birthday present to each other, since our b-days are only two weeks apart. There were several bands there that I enjoy, Emily had never been to a rock concert before, and the tickets were fairly cheap for how many bands were on the list. We had a really good time, even though we couldn't make it in time for a couple of the bands I had wanted to see and we left before the final band came out for their set. Sunday, was the primary program, and after church we chilled at home until it was time to head down to meet up with the family for Vance's little farewell party(Good luck in Tennesee, bro). It was fun to spend time with the family, and we had a little excitement when Izzie broke her leash and ran around Lion's Park at full speed, and our other Shiba, Dodger, decided he'd go for a sprint as well.

Monday night, Emily and I watched Ponyo, the latest movie from Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli, makers of some of my favorite anime movies. It was a cute little show, though the story was not as good as the old Miyazaki movies were. Ever since then it has pretty much been nothing but work for both Emily and I. And we still don't have those pictures we had taken. Take care.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://paladincmd.blogspot.com/2009/10/primary-scorcher-and-work-oh-my.html' title='Primary, Scorcher and Work. We never actually went to the canyon, since the only people who hadn't seen it yet were either so young they were terrified of going and falling in or they wouldn't remember it anyway. Mostly we sat around, played games or went on short treks into the woods. Most of my walks were generally done in the company of our two Shiba Inu pups, who made the camping trip very fun for mine and Emily's nieces and nephew. Izzie especially had fun when on the first morning she snapped her collar off and ran around the campground unrestrained for ten minutes before spotting one of the smaller children, where an adult finally caught the pup. We had to use nylon string to create a make-shift harness for her. It was also nice to have a break from the heat. We had afternoon showers for both of the full days we were camping. It was good to get away, though I think I may suggest Oak Creek canyon to my in-laws for next year. It is a good two hours closer and there would be an easily accessible body of water. I'd put up pictures, but I don't have any in my possesion right now.

Well, I don't know how to start this.
